OVERVIEW

The department of oral and maxillofacial surgery form an important component of the dental hospital as the department is commitment to carried out surgical procedures which includes exodontia, impaction, minor surgeries, biopsies, major surgery like cranio-facial trauma, pediatric trauma, advances surgeries including dental implants, management of cysts and tumors, orthognathic surgeries, cleft lip &cleft palate surgeries and oral malignancy cases. Cases. Procedure of major surgery especially of facial fractures and space infection cases are routinely done in major OT section and septic OT section respectively of the department attached to Rohilkhand Medical Hospital. The emergency casualty team is always present in the casualty section of Rohilkhhand Medical  Hospital. The trauma centre of this department caters to the emergencies of accident cases.

We sturdily believe on the philosphophy of education that we emphasis on all aspects of teaching and learning.“A surgeons can’t think of a single reason why they should be a surgeon but can think of a thousand reasons why they should quit, then comes a moment when its more than just a challenge and you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away, they could quit but heres the thing surgeons love these challenges.” With this attitude our staff  qualified the outgoing  graduates to become a skillfull conversant doctor with easing of the patient and contribute to the nation at its best.Thus forming an intregral part of the Dental college our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department has equipped with state of art armamanetarium,with 5 sections which Includes Undergraduate section, Post Graduate section, Minor OT sections, Septic OT and Major OT sctionswhich help us serves a vareity of health problem with ease, confident and comfort of the patient. The wide vareity of clinical material forms an excellent platforrm for teaching of both undergraduates and post graduates students.The 3rd and 4th year BDS student are guided by faculty on 1:1 ratio during their clinical training thus ensuring a dedicated interactive session with “hand -on” training thus improving their clinnical acumen along with the theoretical knowledge. All interns posted in the department are trained in assisting minor surgical procedures, accompanying the faculty to OTs to aventure different facets of the speciality.MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has commenced from the acedimic year 2008- 2017 with 4 candidates every year and from 2018- further with 6 candidates every year. Their training includes regular chair side discussions, case presentation, seminar, journal club presentation, test  and preclinical work . the rpactical training incorporates assisting the faculy n minor and major surgical procedure before being allowed to independently perform these procedures under guidance. The hall mark of training  in this department focus on  hands-on training.The students are alsoencourage to paper or poster presentation in National and International conferences and prepare case reports and research studies for publication in peer reviewed journals, thus preparing them for their future academic and professional career.

FACILITIES

The department of oral and maxillofacial surgery form an important component of the dental hospital as the department is commitment to carried out surgerical procedures which includes exodontia, impaction, minor surgeries, biopsies, major surgery like cranio-facial trauma, padiatric trauma, advances surgeries including dental implants, management of cysts and tumors, orthognathic surgeries, cleft lip &cleft palate surgeries and oral malignancy cases.

The department has also procured new equipment to run these various units efficiently and effectively hence allowing us to provide promppt service to a longer number of pateint in a shorter spam of time. Procedure falling under the category of minor oral surgery are conducted routinely in the department.

Procedure of major surgery especially of facial fractures and space infection cases are routinely done in major ot section and septic ot section respectively of the department attached to Rohilkhand Medical Hospital.

The emergency casualty team is always present in the casualty section of Rohilkhhand Medical  Hospital. The trauma centre of this department caters to the emergencies of accident cases.

With the aim of providing treatment to indoor patients the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has also developed a fully functional state of the art operation theater complex equipped with surgical and adjunctive gadgets which include surgical light system, cardiac monitors pulse oximeters, cautery system, etc.

The patient being operated in the above mentioned complex are also provided with recovery rooms following their surgical procedure with constant monitoring.

Further hospitalization needs of the patient are well taken care of in our spaciously designed with 40 beds our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery ward in Rohilkhand Medical Hospital. A  special provision has been made of hospitalization of patient being treated of major surgeries as well as those requiring special attention. The facilities available in Rohilkhand Medical Hospital includes intensive care units, blood transfusion care, private ward etc.
